Senior & Lead Instructor Team

Sarah Kerr, Senior Instructor, Broomlee Centre

Sarah joined SOEC in 2017.

She grew up with the outdoors, being taken up Munros from a young age with family, riding bikes and paddling on French rivers.  Her passion for the outdoors really took off through opportunities in climbing, mountaineering and mountain biking with Combined Cadet for at high school and University Air Squadron.  Whilst studying Sports Studies and Tourism Management at University of Stirling, a love for adventure training and outdoor education was born.

Initially after graduation, Sarah looked to join the RAF as a physical training instructor, specialising in adventure training; she spent time volunteering with a youth group at an outdoor centre in central London before getting an outdoor instructor apprenticeship.  She spent 4 years working in the midlands, predominantly climbing and paddling before returning to Scotland to work on her summer Mountain Leader Award.

Sarah enjoys helping people to do things they didn’t feel possible.  She strongly believes outdoor education has a big part to play in the development and education of young people.  It gives them opportunities to develop a different variety of skills from those they might not learn from sitting in a classroom.
