Our Programmes
Expeditions

SOEC develops and delivers a range of expedition programmes which also incorporate the John Muir Award, presenting groups with the challenge to Discover, Explore, Conserve and Share a wild place.
Expeditions are designed to test individuals’ abilities to manage in off-site, wild environments, so an adventurous spirit and a degree of physical fitness is required.
Expeditions At A Glance
- Expeditions incorporating the John Muir Award usually take place over ten days, in a flexible combination of weekends and residential weeks as required .
- Camp craft, night navigation, climbing, wild food collecting and kayaking are just a small selection of the skills acquired. Each programme culminates in the final weekend expedition where practice and preparation are put to the test.
- Tutor to customer ratios during the expedition are a maximum of 1: 8 ensuring a high level of support and guidance.
- The John Muir Award involves each group planning and managing a project that will have a direct benefit on a wild location, whether it be building an animal hide in the Queen Elizabeth Forest or planting a biodiversity garden. For more details about the John Muir Award visit www.jmt.org
